This performance audit aimed to assess whether the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries and PO-RALG have adequately provided extension services to enhance the skills and productivity of livestock farmers.
The audit found a 67% shortage of Livestock Extension Officers in the country, where out of the 13,279 needed officers, only 4,406 were available. In some LGAs, shortages reached as high as 86%. Similarly, the shortage of Motorcycles for extension services was 66%. Inadequate working tools and transportation further impaired the extension service delivery. In some regions, one motorcycle served up to 13 villages. Additionally, many officers lacked essential kits and equipment, reducing the quality of their services.
The audit recommended that the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries and PO-RALG develop a comprehensive and cost-effective registration identification and traceability system that involves all relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the registration, identification and traceability activities.
