Performance Audit Report on the Provision of Support to Small Scale Miners

This performance audit aimed to assess whether the Ministry of Minerals, through the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) and the Mining Commission, have provided adequate support to facilitate the transformation of the Small-Scale Mining sub-sector in the country. 

The audit found that there is inadequate allocation and utilisation of resources to support small-scale miners (SSMs), inadequate coordination during provision of support to small-scale miners and inadequate monitoring and evaluation of the SSMs performance. The audit recommended that the Ministry of Minerals is supposed ensure adequate provision of support to small-scale miners by facilitating access to geological information, mining and mineral processing technology, as well as adequate allocation and utilization of resources.
