This performance audit aimed to assess whether the Vice President's Office (VPO) ensured effective implementation of climate change adaptation actions to enhance the country's resilience to climate change impacts.
The audit noted that the implementation of climate change adaptation actions in Tanzania's water, agriculture, and energy sectors was inadequate. In the water sector, only 43% of priority actions had been implemented; in agriculture, 44%; and in the energy sector, 52%. Key challenges included limited resource mobilisation, inadequate reporting, weak coordination and insufficient monitoring and evaluation.
The Vice President’s Office is urged to strengthen the implementation of climate change adaptation in the country by improving resource allocation, establishing effective follow-up and enforcement mechanisms, promoting coordination and knowledge sharing among actors, and reinforcing monitoring systems.
